Passionate about clean energy

Senior Mechanical Engineer

México D.F. Competitive Permanent

Nuclear

Our client is an innovative clean energy technology company working at the intersection of nuclear engineering, particle physics, and advanced waste transmutation. With operations in Europe and the U.S., they are developing an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to enable the safe transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste, with long-term potential for sustainable energy generation.

As part of this effort, they are expanding their U.S. presence through a dedicated technical programme at Los Alamos National Laboratory, focused on the development of high-reliability ion source and beamline systems.

On-site role in Los Alamos, NM. Relocation required.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the design and development of high-reliability systems for ion sources and particle accelerator beamline components. This position offers a rare opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge innovation in energy and advanced nuclear technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder) due to project and site access requirements
  • Design, analyse, and optimise mechanical components and systems for ion source setups, including housings, cooling systems, mechanical supports, and interfaces.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure manufacturability, safety, and long-term reliability.
  • Conduct stress and thermal analyses for steady-state and high-reliability operations.
  • Oversee fabrication, assembly, and testing of mechanical components to meet project quality and schedule requirements.
  • Provide hands-on support during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
  • Maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and recommendations.

Key Requirements

  • Have experience in high-reliability mechanical systems, particle accelerators, ion beam components or adjacent technologies
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing, ideally in high-reliability environments (e.g., particle accelerators, advanced energy systems).
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks, CATIA).
  • Strong knowledge of materials selection, thermal management, and manufacturing processes.
  • Track record of working effectively within cross-functional, international teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with particle accelerator or ion source design.
  • Expertise in thermal optimisation of mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility standards (e.g., IEC 61000).
  • Knowledge of ASME/ISO technical drawing standards.
  • Awareness of industry norms for mechanical systems in high-power or accelerator-based applications.

Why Join?

  • Contribute to ground-breaking technology that combines energy innovation with sustainable waste recycling.
  • Collaborate with world-class researchers and engineers on a project of global significance.
  • Be part of a growing U.S. team shaping the future of safe, clean nuclear energy.
