Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager, Director or Sr. Development Engineer to support utility-scale solar and storage projects. This role involves developing and evaluating technology options, optimizing energy models, and providing technical oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop conceptual specifications and evaluate technology options for both PV and storage systems.
  • Utilize software like PVsyst to prepare and optimize solar generation models, and perform detailed energy yield assessments (EYAs).

  • Create Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) models considering factors such as end-of-life, cycle count, system throughput, augmentation, and off-take.
  • Review and manage 3rd party/EPC-generated energy models for Solar+BESS systems.

  • Lead the review of EPC drawing packages, commissioning documents, interconnection documents, contract exhibits, and relevant technical materials.
  • Coordinate with the Independent Engineer (IE) and provide technical oversight on external engineering consultants.

  • Maintain detailed libraries of PV components and technologies, including solar modules, inverters, racking structures, and BESS.
  • Provide technical support with conceptual planning, site system configuration optimization, and equipment selection.

  • Review commissioning and acceptance documents.

Support Functions:

  • Provide technical support on major contracts (e.g., EPC Contracts, BESS, Modules, O&M, LTSA).
  • Support operations with ad-hoc analyses of solar energy generation and BESS performance.

  • Use insights from plant analysis to develop and review performance models using PVsyst or other renewable energy tools.
  • Prepare technical feedback and lessons learned from operating assets to enhance future designs.

  • Assist in managing deliverables within Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Interconnection Agreements (IA), and other regulatory processes.
  • Support the development team in securing approvals, certifications, and permits.

  • Aid the construction team with technical reviews and coordination with external engineering resources.
  • Assist the development and financing teams with the review of 3rd party revenue models and due diligence for acquisitions and new business plans.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical infrastructure or a related field (Utility Scale Solar, BESS, Substation, MV, HV). An advanced degree is preferred.

  • At least five years of experience in utility-scale Solar and/or BESS modelling and engineering.
  • Proven expertise in energy modelling for utility-scale projects.

  • Familiarity with relevant building and electrical codes (ASCE, NEC, NFPA).
  • Knowledge of current specifications for BESS systems, transformers, inverters, modules, trackers, and substation components.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Skilled in using PVsyst and other BESS energy modelling software.
  • Experience with Project Management software such as BlueBeam and Microsoft Project.

  • Thorough understanding of utility-scale solar construction practices, including racking systems, inverters, batteries, substations, and electrical design concepts.
