Critical Conversations in Clean Energy Right Now

At PACE, we speak with clean energy professionals every day — from developers and project managers to grid specialists, investors and policymakers. Across those conversations, three themes continue to shape decisions across the sector:

1. Zonal Pricing Scrapped – Market Certainty Prevails

The UK has ruled out the move to zonal electricity pricing - a decision welcomed by much of the industry.

Why it matters: sticking with a national pricing model maintains clarity for developers and investors. It avoids the complexity and risk that regional pricing could have introduced, especially for projects already in progress.

The result? Improved confidence in financial modelling, site selection, and long-term investment, especially at a time when stability is sorely needed.

2. Grid Connection Reform – Long Overdue, and (Hopefully) Imminent

The UK’s overloaded grid connection queue has been holding back clean energy deployment. But change is coming.

Government reforms are expected to introduce new measures to fast-track viable, ready-to-build projects and remove those that are effectively stalled. If successful, this could free up huge amounts of capacity and unlock a pipeline of delayed developments.

It’s a shift many in the industry see as essential, and potentially the most impactful reform in years.

3. The 2030 Cliff Edge – Planning Beyond the Targets

Many of the UK’s net zero targets are pinned to 2030. But what comes after?

That question is already influencing strategic decisions. With limited policy clarity beyond the 2030 milestone, companies are finding it harder to plan, hire, or invest with long-term certainty.

For an industry that operates on decades-long horizons, the lack of a post-2030 roadmap is more than a question mark, it’s a growing concern.

These are just a few of the themes shaping hiring, investment and infrastructure decisions right now. Clean energy continues to move quickly, and the landscape is constantly evolving.

We’re proud to play our part in it, connecting the people and companies powering the transition.
